Route 18 closed in both directions at New Jersey Turnpike Interchange 9

Clean up expected to continue until the evening rush

(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today advised motorists that Route 18 is closed in both directions through the evening commute between Route 1 and Tices Lane in East Brunswick.

A tractor-trailer overturned earlier this afternoon spilling its contents onto the New Jersey Turnpike off-ramp at Exit 9. Hazmat and New Jersey Turnpike Authority crews are on scene investigating and cleaning the spill. NJDOT crews are assisting. All lanes on Route 18 will likely remain closed through the evening commute and additional closures may be necessary.

The Department advises motorists to avoid this stretch of road if possible and to follow posted detours. Heavy delays are expected into the evening commute.

Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info and on the NJDOT Facebook page.
