The New Jersey Department
of Transportation (NJDOT) began work on the nine-stage project in July 2014 and will continue through Fall 2016.
Stages 1, 2 and 3 include the roadway and bridge widening work. These stages have been completed.
Stages 4, 5 and 6 include superstructure demolition and replacement work commencing in May 2015 and continuing until August 2015, utilizing approximately ten weekends of around the clock work (10 pm Friday night to 5 am Monday morning) to minimize the impact to traffic. These stages have been completed.
Stages 7, 8 and 9 involve the installation of bridge approach slabs, the reconstruction of Ramp D and the removal of temporary construction works. This work took take place from August 2015 to April 2016. Route 18 and Route 1 maintained two lanes of travel in both directions throughout the project, although detours around closed ramps were be in effect. These stages have been completed.
