The roadway and bridge carry two lanes of traffic each way, with an outside shoulder for pedestrian and bicyclist access. The 54-year bridge is 1,018 feet long and has nine spans including a double leaf bascule (movable) span near the middle of the bridge.

The entire deck slab will be replaced and there will be safety upgrades to the bridge railings. The structural steel supporting the decking in the movable span will also be replaced and the steel and bearings strengthened.

The electrical/mechanical bridge operating machinery and the roadway lighting will be upgraded.
