Overview

The construction on this project has now been completed.

The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) will make American Reinvestment and Recovery Act graphicimprovements to the Route 72 (Manahawkin Bay) Henderson Memorial Bridge, which links the Borough of Ship Bottom with Stafford Township. This project utilizes stimulus funding made available under the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) and is scheduled for completion in May 2010.

The Dorland J. Henderson Memorial Bridge forms part of the only transportation link for motor vehicles and pedestrians between Long Beach Island (LBI) and the mainland. The project will provide needed repairs and resurfacing to the bridge and approach roadways, and is anticipated to add approximately 10 years to the life of the bridge.

Repairs and improvements to the bridge will take place in stages, with at least one lane open to traffic in each direction throughout construction. Staging has been planned to minimize impacts on traffic.
