Construction Updates
The
project is located in Rutherford
and Lyndhurst, Bergen County,
and the City of Clifton
in Passaic County. The
project design proposes
four main construction
stages and includes
replacement of the existing
movable Route 3 Bridge
over the Passaic River
with a fixed bridge and
associated roadway work
from Main Avenue in Clifton
to Route 17 in Rutherford.
This work also redesigns
Route 3, including shoulders
and ramps, to meet current
design standards.
Improvements to Route
3 will serve to eliminate
the tendency for through
traffic to use local streets
due to congestion on Route
3. During
construction, three lanes
of traffic in each direction
will be maintained on

3 similar to the
previous widening
of the Route 3 Bridge
over Berry's Creek
in the mid-1990s. Construction
