Speed Limits For State Roads

Route NJ 7
(a) The rate of speed designated for the certain parts of State Highway Route NJ 7 described in this subsection are hereby established and adopted as the maximum legal rate of speed:
1. In Hudson County:
i. In the City of Jersey City:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 35 MPH between Route US 1&9 and the City of Jersey City  – Town of Kearny corporate line (approximate mileposts 0.00 to 0.42); thence
ii. In the Town of Kearny:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 35 MPH between the City of Jersey City - Town of Kearny corporate line and Fish House Road (approximate mileposts 0.42 to 0.67); thence
(B) Zone 2: 50 MPH between Fish House Road and the Jersey City and Newark Overpass (County Route 508) (approximate mileposts 0.67 to 1.36); thence
(C) Zone 3: 45 MPH between the Jersey City and Newark Turnpike overpass (County Route 508) and Sellers Street (approximate mileposts 1.36 to 3.66); thence
(D) Zone 4: 35 MPH between Sellers Street and the Town of Kearny –North Arlington Borough corporate line (approximate mileposts 3.66 to 3.72); thence
(2) For the southbound direction of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 35 MPH between the Town of Kearny – North Arlington Borough corporate line and Schuyler Avenue (approximate mileposts 3.72 to 4.22); thence
(B) Zone 2: 30 MPH between Schuyler Avenue and the northerly end of the Passaic River Bridge (approximate mileposts 4.22 to 5.35); thence
2. In Bergen County:
i.  In the Borough of North Arlington:
(1) For the northbound direction of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 35 MPH between the Town of Kearny – North Arlington Borough corporate line and Schuyler Avenue (approximate mileposts 3.72 to 4.22); thence
(B) Zone 2: 30 MPH between Schuyler Avenue and the northerly end of the Passaic River Bridge (approximate mileposts 4.22 to 5.35); thence
NOTE: State Highway Route NJ 7 is a discontinuous route.  The route ends at the northerly end of the Passaic River Bridge and begins again at the City of Newark – Belleville Township corporate line as Washington Avenue (approximate mileposts 5.35 to 6.05).
3. In Essex County:
NOTE: State Highway Route NJ 7 is under municipal (Township of Nutley) jurisdiction from Park Avenue to Kingsland Road (approximate mileposts 8.26 to 9.25).
NOTE: State Highway Route NJ 7 is under county (Passaic County) jurisdiction from Kingsland Road to the Yantacaw Pond Brook (approximate mileposts 9.25 to 9.40).
i. In the Township of Belleville:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 30 MPH between the City of Newark - Belleville Township corporate line and Greylock Parkway, except for25 MPH in the Belleville Junior High School zone, during recess or while children are going to or leaving school, during opening or closing hours (approximate mileposts 6.05 to 7.48); thence
(B) Zone 2: 35 MPH between Greylock Parkway and the  Belleville Township – Nutley Township corporate line (approximate mileposts 7.48 to 7.84); thence
ii. In the Township of Nutley:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
Zone 1: 35 MPH between the Belleville-Town of Nutley line to the New Jersey Department of Transportation – Nutley Township jurisdictional line (Park Avenue), except for 25 MPH in the Washington school zone, during recess or while children are going to or leaving school, during opening or closing hours (approximate mileposts 7.84 to 8.26); thence
NOTE: Route NJ 7 is under municipal (Township of Nutley) jurisdiction from Park Avenue to Kingsland Road (approximate mileposts 8.26 to 9.25).
NOTE: Route NJ 7 is under county (Passaic County) jurisdiction from Kingsland Road to the Yantacaw Pond Brook (approximate mileposts 9.25 to 9.40).
(2) Zone 2: 30 MPH from the Essex County - Passaic County corporate line at Yantacaw Pond Brook to the Essex County-Passaic line at Orange Street (end of route) (approximate mileposts 9.40 to 10.16).
