An Overview

The Bureau of Risk Management functions as an in-house insurance company for the State of New Jersey. It is responsible for the procurement of insurance for the various Departments of State government, providing technical insurance advice to State agencies, developing programs to protect physical assets and implementing safety programs to mitigate both the frequency and severity of accidental loss.

The State of New Jersey is self administered and self funded for losses involving Workers' Compensation, Tort Liability, Auto Liability, Subornation for Property Damage and Foster Parent Liability. All claims generated are handled by the Bureau with litigation support from the New Jersey Department of Law and Public Safety.
