BJ
Kelly and Paulette Nyiri, past president and reporter,
respectively, of the New Jersey FFA, will receive
the American FFA Degree on November 14 during the
71st National FFA Convention in Kansas City, MO.
They both reside in Phillipsburg, Warren County.
The American FFA Degree, the highest degree the
organization awards, recognizes demonstrated leadership
ability and outstanding achievements in agricultural
business, production, processing or service programs.
In order to be nominated and selected to receive
this national honor, FFA members must earn $7,500
through a supervised agricultural experience program
where they establish their own business or work
for an existing agricultural enterprise and productively
invest their earnings. American FFA Degree recipients
will receive a gold key and certificate. Of the
447,880 FFA members, only 1,935 will receive the
degree in 1998. FFA in New Jersey continues to
grow. There are over 1,850 FFA members in 35 FFA
chapters around the Garden State. The degree recognition
program is co-sponsored by American Cyanamid's
Agricultural Products Division, Parsippany, NJ;
Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Johnston, IA; Case
Corporation, Racine, WI; and Farm Credit System,
Denver, CO, as a special project of the National
FFA Foundation.
