The State Agriculture Development Committee (SADC) will hold a farm tour at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 13th, for anyone who may be interested in bidding on the former Strang farm in Alloway and Mannington townships, Salem County. The tour will start from the Salem County Agricultural Complex, 51 Cheney Road, Mannington Township. The SADC will auction the 276-acre, permanently preserved farm on Friday, October 27th. The minimum bid is $320,000. The former dairy farm, located on Hackett and McKillip roads, includes a historic house and extensive outbuildings. The SADC purchased the farm in March through its fee simple program. Under this program, the SADC buys farms outright from willing sellers, then resells them at auction with deed restrictions that permanently preserve the land for agriculture. Proceeds from all auction sales are returned to the state Farmland Preservation Program and used to preserve other New Jersey farms.

The SADC administers the state Farmland Preservation Program. For more information on the tour or auction, contact the SADC at (800) 474-5314.
