(TRENTON) – New Jersey Agriculture Secretary Charles M. Kuperus today urged farmers in the state to nominate their peers who are respected role models and leaders in the agriculture industry for the prestigious 2006 Mid-Atlantic Master Farmer award.

The award, co-sponsored by the publication, “American Agriculturist,” and Rutgers Cooperative Extension, recognizes farmers who are superb farmers, smart businesspersons, excellent stewards of their resources and exemplary community servants.

New Jersey has a rich farming heritage that continues today. The Master Farmer award is a way to recognize the innovative individuals who keep agriculture going strong in the most densely populated state in the nation.

To make a nomination, send the farmer’s name, mailing address and your name to: Mid-Atlantic Master Farmer Program, P.O.B. 4475, Gettysburg, PA, 17325, or fax it to (7171) 334-3129. You may also e-mail the information to jvogel@farmprogress.com.
