Atlantic City is moving in a positive direction. In order for this progress to endure, the State working with the City, must do three things: continue to stabilize city finances, strengthen and diversify the economy and tackle longstanding challenges such as poverty, unemployment, public safety, and public health. The Atlantic City Transition Report, which was issued in September 2018, provides a roadmap for tackling these and other critical issues so that as many people as possible can share in the new opportunities emerging in the city. The framework for getting the work done includes a council of local stakeholders dedicated to advancing revitalization efforts in the city, a coordinating council of 18 cabinet agencies and offices supporting the revitalization efforts, and a broad array of efforts to engage community members. The primary purpose of these councils is to ensure that as city and state actors take on tasks, there are no silos but instead opportunities to benefit from synergies and previously untapped strengths of the city.
Also, the State established the Atlantic City Restart and Recovery Working Group in July 2020 to examine the post-COVID-19 reality of Atlantic City and provide recommendations for how the city can economically and socially recover from the pandemic. The Working Group in May 2021 completed a recommendations report. Click on the link on the right hand side of this webpage to access the report.
