DCA Awards Over $2 Million in Rape Care and Primary Prevention Program Grants |
TRENTON, N.J. – New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA) Acting Commissioner Joseph Doria today announced the award of over $2 million in Rape Care Capital Grants. The funds will support 21 county rape care programs and three statewide programs.
“Governor Corzine and the Legislature continue to invest in programs that provide crucial support to New Jersey residents in need,” said Acting Commissioner Doria. “These grants will allow organizations to strengthen the essential rape care services they provide to victims and their families as well as educate the public to prevent further instances of sexual violence.”
Rape care programs provide a variety of assistance services for victims of rape, sexual assault or domestic violence, including accompanying victims through medical and legal procedures, offering professional crisis counseling as well as longer-term post-trauma counseling, and providing programs to help raise awareness and create prevention of rape, sexual assault and domestic violence.
The Rape Care and Primary Prevention Program 2008 grants are comprised of two components: Sexual Assault, Abuse and Rape Care, and Rape Prevention and Education. Sexual Assault, Abuse and Rape Care Grant funds are for the provision of effective, coordinated services to survivors of sexual violence through direct services. Rape Prevention and Education Grant funds are for the provision of county, regional and/or statewide sexual violence prevention and education activities in an effort to eliminate the incidence of sexual violence and initiate, continue, expand or strengthen the operation of sexual assault hotlines.
