Edwin Carman Named Chief of Staff at DCA

TRENTON, N.J.- New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA) Acting Commissioner Joseph V. Doria, Jr. today named Edwin G. Carman of Franklin Township, Somerset County, as DCA’s new Chief of Staff.

“Edd brings a wealth of knowledge to his new post as Chief of Staff,” Commissioner Doria said.  “Through his experience in the public and private sectors, he brings a unique understanding of both suburban and urban communities to state government.”

As Chief of Staff, Carman will handle a broad range of responsibilities including acting as the Commissioner’s liaison on intergovernmental and legislative affairs, serving as the key contact for elected officials and legislators throughout the state, and overseeing several divisions throughout the Department.

“I am proud and honored that Commissioner Doria has asked me to serve in this important role,” Carman said.  “I look forward to working with such an incredible team to move Governor Corzine’s agenda forward and make a real difference in the lives of New Jerseyans.

Prior to joining DCA, Carman served as a Senior Lobbyist for the New Jersey School Board Association, where he was responsible for developing policies regarding strategic departmental initiatives.  He has also worked at several state agencies including the Department of Education, Department of Transportation and the Division of Motor Vehicles (now the Motor Vehicle Commission), and served as a councilman in New Brunswick for 17 years.

Carman, a resident of Franklin Township in Somerset County, has a bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University with a dual major in journalism and political science.
