TRENTON, N.J. – New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA) Acting Commissioner Richard E. Constable, III has named Gail Gordon as chair of the 2012 New Jersey Governor’s Conference for Women. She is responsible for overseeing a 40+ person committee, which is tasked with outlining programs; securing speakers and sponsorships; and promoting the conference. The 2012 conference will take place May 7-8 at the Atlantic City Convention Center.

“The 2012 Governor’s Conference for Women is adding new highlights this year under the direction of our chair, Gail Gordon, and a committee of talented, energetic women leaders,” said DCA Acting Commissioner Constable. “For the first time, there will be a golf outing and clinic at the Atlantic City Country Club and expanded career building opportunities. We hope people join us May 8 to take advantage of the opportunity to network and share experiences with women – and men – of all age groups and interests.”

Gordon of Fair Lawn is a nationally-recognized professional in the areas of fundraising, public and government relations and community outreach. In addition to her professional responsibilities as a member of Chase Partners, LLC, she is Vice Chairperson of the NJ Hall of Fame. Gordon served as a member of Governor Christie's transition team.

“I am honored to again be asked to serve as the conference chair by Acting Commissioner Constable,” said Gordon.  “Last year, the steering committee really embraced their roles,  brought many new ideas to the process, and reinvigorated the conference.  I look forward to working with Lori, Jill, Liz and the entire committee, as we strive to make this year’s women’s conference even bigger and better.”

Lori Grifa, of Upper Montclair, is former Commissioner of the NJ Department of Community Affairs and is now an attorney with Wolff & Samson. Jill Johnson, of South Orange, is the Co-Founder and CEO of the Institute for Entrepreneurial Leadership and Liz Thomas, of Mount Laurel, is Co-Founder & CEO of Thomas/Boyd Communications.

The New Jersey Governor’s Conference for Women is hosted by the DCA’s Division on Women and the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency, a DCA affiliate. The conference is self-sustaining, funded entirely through sponsorship opportunities and registration fees. It offers women the opportunity to learn practical and professional strategies from recognized experts. Participants attend workshops and seminars focusing on critical issues facing women today.

Last year’s conference attracted over 1,200 women from around the state and featured such dynamic speakers as New Jersey Lieutenant Governor Kim Guadagno; former New Jersey Governor Christine Todd Whitman; Princeton University President Shirley Tilghman; and Star Jones, former co-host of the Emmy Award winning talk show “The View”.
