Registration Still Open for March Courses Covering Project Finance and Real Estate Trends

TRENTON, NJ – The New Jersey Redevelopment Authority (NJRA), an affiliate of the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA), today announced upcoming training courses in March as part of its Redevelopment Training Institute (NJRA RTI). NJRA RTI offers intensive training courses for non-profit and for-profit developers, professional consultants, licensed practitioners, entrepreneurs, and government staff on the redevelopment and real estate development process in New Jersey.

NJRA RTI courses are open to the public, taught by industry leaders, and cover topics including redevelopment planning law, tax abatements, general assessment practices in redevelopment areas, and real estate project feasibility. Classes are offered regionally throughout the state.

“The Redevelopment Training Institute provides a roadmap to help participants learn and navigate residential and commercial development, and understand how capital markets are responding to the need for affordable housing, mixed-use development, and the retail sector,” said Lieutenant Governor Sheila Oliver, DCA Commissioner, who serves as the Chairwoman of the NJRA board. “Anyone interested in redevelopment should consider taking advantage of these informative courses.”

On March 19 and 20, NJRA RTI is offering the Beginner Excel-Based Project Finance class, which introduces students to financing tools and options in today's market for residential and commercial development. Attendees will also learn finance concepts and terminology, including Net Operating Income (NOI), Net Present Value (NPV), and debt coverage ratio (DCR) and how to create budgets and operating pro formas using Excel. Students can receive 12 Continuing Legal Education Credits (CLE) through the Supreme Court of New Jersey Board on Continuing Legal Education; 11 Certification Maintenance Credits (CM) through the American Institute of Certified Planners; and 11 Learning Units (LU) through The American Institute of Architects.

On March 22, 2018, NJRA RTI is offering a half-day real estate trends symposium, Aligning Development Strategy for Impact & Profit, to provide an overview of the real estate market and to discuss the trends and changes in the real estate development and financing market. Industry experts will discuss market and sub-market reports on the single-family, multi-family, retail, hotel, and office sectors, and provide their insights on the 2018 market outlook. Students can receive 4.5 Continuing Legal Education Credits (CLE) through the Supreme Court of New Jersey Board on Continuing Legal Education; 3.75 Certification Maintenance Credits (CM) through the American Institute of Certified Planners; and 3.75 Learning Units (LU) through the American Institute of Architects.

“Not only does the Redevelopment Training Institute provide learning opportunities in real estate development and the finance sector in urban and suburban mixed-use and commercial communities, but it also opens the door to becoming part of a professional network that offers education, resources, advocacy and networking opportunities,” said Leslie A. Anderson,” NJRA Executive Director. “Our industry experts share valuable lessons that can’t be obtained from a textbook.”
