VEHICLE REGISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS

(See Next Page)

In accordance with N.J.A.C. 7:26-3.4 (h) et seq. the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection is responsible for issuing solid waste registration decals.

Each registrant (transporter) is being assigned a unique four or five digit Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) registration number.

N.J.A.C. 7:26-3.4 (h) requires that all registrants display in letters and number at least three inches in height the DEP number and the capacity of the vehicle (in cubic yards, in tons or in gallons). This information must be permanently displayed by the registrant on both sides of each registered solid waste vehicle and container in contrasting colors so as to be visible to the operator of the solid waste facility. (See Figure A).

All vehicles used in the collection or transport of solid waste must carry the current NJDEP registration certification in the solid waste vehicle.

EXAMPLE OF VOLUME COMPUTATION: The capacity in cubic yards can be obtained from the manufacturer or by the following method:

MEASURE THE: *EXAMPLE
Length of vehicle bed (in feet*) "L"
Width of vehicle bed (in feet*) "W"
Height of vehicle bed (in feet*) "H"
3 ft., 4 in. = 3.33 ft.
3 ft., 6 in. = 3.50 ft.
*Do not round to less than two decimal places.

The formula is: L x W x H = Volume in cubic feet.
Then divide the cubic feet by 27: Volume in cubic feet/27 = Volume in Cubic Yards ** Round off to the nearest cubic yard.

NOTE: The registrant is responsible for the accuracy of the volume reported within 0.50 cubic
yards regardless of the method used to obtain or calculate the volume.

NOTE: Accurate records of all waste picked-up and disposed (by quantity and waste ID numbers) must be kept.
