Meet The 22 Snake Species of the Garden State (nj.com)
With its many landscapes and habitat types, New Jersey has a wide variety of reptiles and amphibians. Calling spring peepers enhance spring evenings and summer bullfrogs entertain us at night. Children thrill to finding familiar box turtles or garter snakes, and endangered salamanders struggle to survive as habitat is lost. Division biologists have worked extensively with some species (such as bog turtles) to halt their decline and restore populations.
