Hourly Worker - Marine Fisheries

Background: Fisheries Biology

Location: Nacote Creek Research Lab, Port Republic, Atlantic County

Work Week: Monday through Friday; 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Job Description: Assist with field and data processing duties of fishery research projects conducted by the NJ Bureau of Marine Fisheries. This includes working aboard small boats, setting nets/pots, sorting, quantifying and measuring the catch. Record catch and other pertinent data in the field in addition to measuring basic water quality parameters utilizing proper instrumentation. Other duties include processing, entering and validating data collected during fishery surveys. Responsible for maintenance of buildings, grounds, vehicles, boats, trailers and equipment.

Requirements: College graduate or student working towards a degree in marine science, natural resource management, environmental studies, or related field preferred. Must be able to identify various marine and estuarine finfish species. Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey and work up to 35 hours weekly. Basic computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office programs are required. Completion of an accredited boating safety course is desired.

Compensation: $10.00 per hour
