Need another way to promote TIC to your administrators? How about all the possible tie-ins to the Next Generation Science Standards?
The Next Generation standards are meant to introduce more hands-on experience and exploration to science instruction, supplanting the traditional focus on memorizing content and are directly connected to Common Core. They place more emphasis on engineering skills, and restructure New Jersey's current standards to combine core content with the skills to apply them, and also incorporate interdisciplinary concepts.
The NGSS were adopted by the NJ State Board of Education on July 9, 2014. The implementation timeline is as follows:
- Grades 6-12 to implement by the start of the 2016-2017 school year.
- Grades K-5 to implement by the start of the 2017-2018 school year.
Being a hands-on, science based program, there are many tie ins to the NGSS and Trout in the Classroom. While the following document is not final, it will give educators an idea as to how these two can be connected:
