Wildlife Management Areas

WMAs Are Open; Division Offices and Buildings Closed
Help keep WMAs open by observing proper social distancing!

The Bay Point dock on Nantuxent WMA is closed due to severe damage sustained during Hurricane Isaias.
The northernmost and southernmost parking areas in the Ken Lockwood Gorge are open. The middle parking area, accessed from the north end is closed due to poor road conditions caused by recent storms. Parking availability, therefore, is even more restricted than usual. Visitors are urged to plan accordingly. Visitors may access the Ken Lockwood Gorge via the Columbia Trail. Parking for the Columbia Trail can be found off Main St. in High Bridge. The Division hopes to restore access to all parking lots in October.
The dam removal area of Columbia WMA will remained closed until spring 2021.

WMA Restrictions Are In Effect In the Areas Listed Below.

Greenwood Parkers Pit - will remain seasonally closed
Malibu Beach Small Triangle to North of Main Parking Lot
Winslow East Ponds - Open to walk-in access only

arrow State Forestry Services is conducting controlled burns on the select Wildlife Management Areas until April. The burns will occur depending on weather and other conditions. For more information visit the NJ Forest Fire Service Facebook page.
arrow The Three Bridges area on Mountain Road within the Flatbrook-Roy Wildlife Management Area is closed to vehicular traffic indefinitely. The decision to close the road was made based on concerns from Department of Transportation engineers regarding the structural integrity of the bridges. The area is accessible via foot and parking is along Mountain Road before the bridge closures. The public can also use alternate routes via Roy Bridge on Rt. 615 or Brook Road from Rt. 560. (View map)

The table below lists all state Wildlife Management Areas as of February, 2020. At that time the system had almost 357,000 acres in 122 areas (see the October, 2017 DEP news release). New properties and additions to existing properties are continually being added. (In addition, Public Service Electric & Gas (PSE&G) maintains four (4) areas for public fish and wildlife associated recreation activities under the terms of State of New Jersey hunting and fishing permits. See below.)

Clicking on a WMA name opens a topographic map of the area in a new tab/window. Maps are in PDF format and many have been compressed to reduce file size and download time. For higher resolution print or PDF format maps of the WMAs, or for more information, contact the Bureau of Land Management at 609-984-0547 or e-mail WMAMAPS@dep.nj.gov. Include a mailing address if requesting print maps.

Maps showing area roads are available on the Wildlife Management Areas - Road Maps page.

Please note that state WMAs and facilities are "carry in - carry out" and trash receptacles are not provided; please plan accordingly to not leave any trash or recyclables behind.
