Kingwood Twp. Parcel – Hunterdon County WMA-11
March 2011

The Office of Natural Resource Restoration (ONRR) is tasked with the assessment and restoration of natural resources that have been injured by hazardous discharges to the environment.  As a result of impacts to ground water, natural resource damage settlements were negotiated for sites in Watershed Management Area – 11.  $150,000.00 from this account was used towards the acquisition of the Horseshoe Bend Parcels in Kingwood Township which will preserve open space and allow ground water recharge to approximately 237 acres in Hunterdon County (Watershed Management Area -11).  The parcel is adjacent to the Copper Creek, a tributary to the Delaware River and a home to grassland birds such as the Bobolink and the Meadow Lark.

Additional Funding was provided by Green Acres Grant monies, New Jersey Conservation Foundation County Grant and the Township Open Space Trust Fund.  Closing on the parcel took place spring 2011.
