Mountainwood Spring Conservation Easement

LOCATION:  Hardwick Township, Warren County Block 8.01 Lot 9 in the core of Ridge and Valley Limestone Forest Preserve.

DESCRIPTION:  68-acre parcel that protects the Mountainwood Spring and the rare plants and animals that inhabit the Limestone Forest.  The Spring sits in the core of Ridge and Valley Conservancy’s Limestone Forest Project.  It is a pristine woodland that has escaped logging for over a half century.  It is the second most prolific spring in the Ridge and Valley Region flowing at an average of about 5 million gallons per day directly from the limestone.  It supplies the Paulins Kill with high quality ground water that sustains the river’s quality.  Preserving this parcel secured open space and ensures that there will be no future development on this parcel while also protecting the spring.

NRDA Settlement:  Hope Auto Care and Thomas and Betts groundwater contamination.

FUNDERS:
Green Acres, ONRR, Warren County, Hardwick Township and the New Jersey Conservation Foundation.
