The Office of Policy and Coastal Management

The Office of Policy and Coastal Management

The Office of Policy Implementation (OPI) is now the Office of Policy and Coastal Management (PCM).

Land Use Management is responsible for regulating land use activities with the potential to exacerbate flooding and to impact the health and quality of our streams, estuaries, coastal waters, wetlands, wildlife habitat, and drinking water.

The Office of Policy and Coastal Management (PCM) plays four major roles in this objective:

Rulemaking

PCM's Rule Team develops the regulations for permitting activities in the three major land use areas – the coastal area, freshwater wetlands, and flood hazard areas.

Education and Outreach

PCM’s education and outreach initiative promotes increased public awareness and knowledge of the current land use rule changes, application process, and permitting as well as the importance of ensuring our environment for future generations.

Coordination

The importance and intricacy of regulating land use activities requires the involvement of a number of offices, agencies, and other entities on the State, Federal, and local levels. PCM helps harmonize the activities and concerns of these various groups.

Mitigation Council & Banking

PCM plays two roles in the management of mitigation activities – serving as the staff to the Wetlands Mitigation Council and overseeing all mitigation bank projects.
