Initial Certification Procedures for a CURRENTLY Certified Measurement Business or Mitigation Business

  • The regulations for Radon Testing and Mitigation at N.J.A.C. 7:28-27A were published in the New Jersey Register on June 6, 2022. You can now access the FULL Adoption Document and the NEW Regulations at N.J.A.C. 7:28-27.

  • Every business and individual must submit an application on or before October 3, 2022. The new rules will be operative on December 3, 2022. Until that time, continue to follow the existing rules for radon testing and mitigation.

  • The Radon Section has emailed you a partially pre-filled initial application for certification under the new regulations. Check your email, including spam, and if you do not receive an application by June 16, 2022, contact the radon section at radon@dep.nj.gov or (800) 648-0394.

  • The Radon Section will send you an acknowledgement notice when your application is complete. At that time, your business may affiliate with individuals who provide their acknowledgement notice to you, in preparation for when the new regulations become operative on December 3, 2022. Send the completed affiliation forms to the Radon Section. The Radon Section will add the affiliations to the database and your new certification will be complete. A certificate will be mailed to you. Hold this certificate in a safe place until the new regulations are operative on December 3, 2022. Until then, continue to follow the regulations for the Certification of Radon Testers and Mitigators at N.J.A.C. 7:28-27.

  • You may continue to submit new affiliation forms as needed to the Radon Section until November 19, 2022. After that point, any further affiliations must be submitted after December 3, 2022.

  • ALL certification correspondence will be via email in the future. Continue to check your email regularly.  The Radon Section is not responsible for notices that are lost in your spam or junk folder.

  • As an option and for your convenience, the Radon Section developed a QA plan for charcoal canister, charcoal liquid scintillation, and alpha track devices; a QA plan for continuous radon monitors; a QA plan for electret devices; a radiological safety plan for measurement businesses; and a radiological safety plan for mitigation businesses. You may choose to use these and fill in minimal business-specific information. If you prefer to write your own plans, follow N.J.A.C. 7:28-27A.14 and 15.

  • Several monthly report fields are changing. The new Excel spreadsheet and data requirements will be sent to you on or before July 15, 2022.
