Technologist Education and Licensing Section
INTRODUCTION
The goal of the Technologist Education and Licensing Section (Section) is to ensure that patients receive the benefits of high quality radiological procedures without unnecessary exposure to ionizing radiation. The Section is within the Bureau of X-Ray Compliance (Bureau) and administers New Jersey's educational and licensure program for radiologic technologists. In New Jersey, there are approximately 23,000 licensed radiologic technologists in eight licensure categories. Additionally, the Section oversees approximately 60 educational programs that are approved by either the Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners (Board) or the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (Department). All x-ray, radiation therapy and nuclear medicine procedures must be performed by individuals who are licensed by the Board or the Department. New Jersey licensed doctors also are permitted to perform x-ray or radiation therapy procedures provided that they are practicing within the scope of their licenses. In addition to license technologists and dentists, a dental hygienist registered by the Dental Board of Examiners is permitted to perform dental x-ray procedures.
The Bureau does not accept walk-in applications. Applicants should submit applications by mail. License applications will be processed within five business days of receipt. Renewal applicants can renew on-line or by mail.
