Christie Administration Continues Season of Service As Department
of Banking and Insurance Staff Serve Meals in Trenton

TRENTON — As part of the Christie Administration’s fifth annual Season of Service, Department and Banking and Insurance Acting Commissioner Richard J. Badolato and Department staff yesterday served lunches to local residents at the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen on Escher Street.

“The Trenton Area Soup Kitchen has been doing outstanding work providing meals and other vital social services to Trenton area residents for nearly 35 years,” said Acting Commissioner Badolato. “It was a pleasure and a privilege to assist staff yesterday during this busy holiday season.”

The Trenton Area Soup Kitchen was founded in the early 1980s by a small group of individuals from local churches and service organizations. The South Trenton Soup Kitchen serves meals three nights per week to those in need in the South Ward. A TASK van travels from the Escher Street facility to the First Baptist Church on each of the three evenings to deliver hot meals along with other donations for the individuals and families served.

In addition to meals, TASK also offers adult tutoring in the areas of basic literacy, math and computer skills and assistance to community members in a variety of areas including housing, medical assistance, employment, substance abuse rehabilitation and receipt of benefits.

The Christie Administration’s annual Season of Service activities allow Administration staff to perform volunteer work at various locations across the State to help New Jersey residents. Continuing the success of previous service initiatives, this year’s activities focused on serving New Jersey’s most vulnerable residents.
