FORT LEE HIGH (03-1550-050)

Fort Lee High School provides a comprehensive education for approximately 1,000 students. Our sole focus is to support students in a manner that will meet the diverse needs of our student population so they will be prepared to meet the challenges of their future goals. For young people, it is often unknown what is ahead so we strive to provide a rigorous course of study that will motivate, enlighten and inspire them as they prepare for college or the workforce.
Our motto of “Pride and Excellence” defines our goal so students are motivated to pursue their interests while finding success as they achieve the fundamental requirements necessary for graduation. This motto nurtures a sense of pride in their attainment of individual expectations, as well as a sense of pride for our school as an educational community.

At Fort Lee High School, we offer many courses for student choice. If they are interested in following a basic course of study, we have many electives that will provide enrichment while opening their eyes to future possibilities. Small learning community options, such as the Academy of Finance and Academy of Performing Arts, provide students with a concentrated focus in Business and the Arts. These two-year programs nurture a cohort of students through an alignment with a core teaching staff throughout their high school career. Through mentorship, the staff commitment helps students feel valued as individuals and results in a high level of self-confidence for what they can achieve as learners. Both of these programs use community resources as a virtual classroom. This articulation enables our students to gain a genuine perspective between content learned and its actual application.

All students, at Fort Lee High School, are supported in a manner that enables them to see that “choice” after graduation is possible. It is nurtured through a sense of accomplishment that builds self-confidence in their ability to move forward and find success in the future. At every level, our course of study is enhanced by advanced placement and honors course options so students can challenge themselves as they pursue their interests. Our recent introduction of the “International Baccalaureate” program has aligned Fort Lee High School with an elite group of schools. This program is linked to a world perspective on issues and helps students understand the interconnection of knowledge as it has evolved over time.

We are committed to supporting student needs. Our Science Research Program, New Jersey Teen Pep and Television Production Studio are examples of the variety of options that are available for students. Community service participation is embedded as a graduation requirement. This program helps our students understand their role as citizens in society as they do something useful for others and experience the value it has when working to make a difference. In combination with our co-curricular offerings, such as our Academic Decathlon, Debate, and Math and Science Leagues, our students can depend on opportunities that will challenge and prepare them while exciting them as learners. Over the past year, Fort Lee High School was named 590 in the top 1,000 high schools in the nation. We advanced in our standing in the top 100 high schools in New Jersey for the third year in a row. With a tremendous sense of pride, we are committed to meeting the needs of all learners. Our Problem-Based Units of Study, Collaborative Teaching settings and Inter-Scholastic Athletic Programs are a prime example of our efforts to provide an enriched experience to meet the diverse needs of our student population.

There are over 50 languages spoken in the homes of our students. We maintain a school culture that respects each other’s differences, while finding appreciation for our commonalities. With students as our central focus, we are open to any option that will provide the type of education that is needed so each student will find success and have a fulfilling experience at Fort Lee High School.

Freshmen are welcomed into our Freshman Academy. This year-long program provides a narrow lens which assists students in making a solid transition to high school. Our philosophy is based on national data that shows freshman year as a predictor of high school life. Our efforts in this area have proven to be a contributing factor in sending 92% of our student body off to college after graduation.

Fort Lee High School takes pride in preparing our students to be life-long learners and ensure that all are prepared with 21st century skills. Our partnership with parents and the greater community is a critical piece that makes all of our efforts possible and makes certain that Fort Lee High School is seen as a vital component of the Fort Lee School District.
