The cornerstone in the front of the building reads 1911. For over one-hundred years School #4 has proudly served the families of the Palisades section in Fort Lee. During this time span School #4 has under gone several changes. Our student population mirrors the diverse Fort Lee community. Students from over twenty different cultures, whose families speak as many different languages, make up this diverse community, providing students with a unique, enriched relationship and educational experience.
The administration and dedicated staff of the School Four Educational Team are deeply committed to the achievement of district goals and objectives in preparing our students to meet the intellectual and personal challenges of the future. Through the infusion of the Core Curriculum Standards, the integration of the Common Core Standards and Professional Development to ensure that classroom instruction is current and challenging. School 4 teachers facilitate student achievement with the integration of technology, the implementation of project-based learning, the development of critical thinking skills, the inclusion of multi-sensory methodologies, and cooperative learning experiences.
School #4 students and teachers have attained recognition for excellence in academic achievement from the New Jersey Department of Education as a “Reward School,” National Current Events Awards, Word Masters Competition, Presidential Educational Awards, community-based projects such as the Leukemia-Lymphoma Society-School and Youth Program as “Champions of Change,” the Holiday Food Drives and the North Jersey Media Group Foundation’s “Bear Hugs for the Holidays” project.
In addition to the traditional academic curriculum, School #4 offers a diverse array of programs that integrate a positive focus on the development of student’s social and emotional learning which address individual student needs and gifts that nurture a “Bully-Free” environment. This curriculum integration includes Responsibility and Character Education, School #4 Character Pledge, SLANTing, Etiquette Table, Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.), Students Against Destructive Decisions (S.A.D.D.), Divorce and Bereavement Programs, Multicultural Awareness, Basic Skills Programs in Reading, Math, Writing and Language Arts, SuccessMaker Computer-Based-Learning Program, Peer Mediators, English as a Second Language, Bilingual classes in Korean, Japanese and Spanish, Gifted and Talented Program, The Metropolitan Opera Guild Project, Environmental Club, Anti-Bullying Curriculum, and a very special Kindergarten and Sixth Grade Buddies Project.
Services beyond the School #4 classrooms are available to both parents and students. They include a full time nurse, full time guidance counselor, extra after school help, the before school breakfast club, Extended School Day Program, and Intervention and Referral Services, which meets with teachers to develop intervention strategies and solutions for student academic and personal tribulations.
Traditions of academic excellence and of a dynamic, energetic parent/teacher involvement help create a sense of community and family that makes School #4 a very special place to grow and learn.
