FORT LEE BORO (03-1550-070)
School No. 2
The focus of School No. 2 is to endow children with the tools to help them achieve their maximum potential at all times. Basic skills are taught with an eclectic, interdisciplinary approach designed to motivate a desire to learn, stimulate higher level thinking, and assist in pragmatic application of facts. Skills attained are a major focus of curriculum and content programs related to the Core Curriculum Standards adopted by the State Board of Education.
Children attain acknowledgment and special recognition for their efforts in ways such as letters to parents, placement on honor roll and high honor roll rosters, receiving Presidential Academic and Physical Fitness Awards, and selection as Students of the Month for demonstration of effort, improvement and citizenship.
Weekly grade level meetings ensure a continuous, ever developing program of instruction. Our grade level Showcases support the Common Core Standards for developing college and career readiness providing students a range of opportunities for speaking/presenting in small groups or individually.
Our participation in the Circle the Arts and Lincoln Center Metropolitan Opera Guild allows children to develop personal expression in the area of performance as well as visual arts. Our science program is designed to engage children in hands-on activities, which promotes interest and makes the field of science come alive. Children are sensitized to the importance of social responsibility by preserving our environment and endangered animal species.
Our multicultural student population embraces our emphasis upon the importance of global education. Knowledge, understanding, an appreciation and respect for the cultures, customs and backgrounds of others are critical to our daily lives and to the future of our society. Frequent creative multicultural activities are integrated in our curriculum programs.
School No. 2 places a great emphasis upon the importance of educating children about the abuses of drugs, alcohol and tobacco. In keeping with this endeavor we avail ourselves of formal and informal opportunities to engage the children. SADD and D.A.R.E. are integral inclusions in our curriculum. There is a focus upon the affective as well as the cognitive development of children. Helping children to build self-esteem and self-confidence are critical components in addressing drug abuse prevention, as well as rounding out our young people.
The entire Fort Lee school community takes great pride in the district's mission to provide a thorough and efficient education that challenges the minds of each and every student we serve. We continually strive to create comprehensive educational programs in which students with different backgrounds, skills, interests and aptitudes have opportunities to work and learn together, share ideas, and develop a mutual respect for one another. Our programs are designed to help students develop critical thinking and problem solving skills; the tools needed for confronting and evaluating rapid societal changes.
The Fort Lee Board of Education believes that the diversity of the school population demands a wide range of curricular and extra-curricular offerings to prepare students for further education and the working world. Moreover, the Board believes that effective education can occur only in an atmosphere implemented and enhanced by humanistic discipline. These beliefs became the "building blocks" for all the educational programs and experiences provided to our students each year.
Please take the time to review this School Report Card. I'm sure you will agree that the district has taken a clear pathway to not only meet the Common Core Standards, but to exceed them.
