New Jersey’s Health IT Approach

The New Jersey Health Information Technology Coordinator’s Office within the New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH) focuses on the following key initiatives:

  1. Helping Healthcare Providers Transition to Electronic Health Records
Electronic Health Records (EHRs) make it possible for health care providers to better manage patient care through the secure use of health IT.

  2. Promoting the New Jersey Medicaid Promoting Interoperability Program
Incentive payments are offered to eligible professionals and hospitals as they adopt, implement, upgrade, and demonstrate meaningful use of certified EHR technology.

  3. Supporting Public Health Reporting and Promoting Interoperability
NJDOH hosts public health registries dedicated to improving the overall health of New Jersey’s citizens. These registries accept or are actively working to accept Public Health data from EHRs.

  4. Connecting through the New Jersey Health Information Network
The New Jersey Health Information Network (NJHIN) will facilitate data exchange among the Health Information Organizations in New Jersey.
