WHEREAS, Thomas
Joseph Hanratty joined the New Jersey State Police on February 10,
1989, and was assigned to Troop B, northern New Jersey; and
WHEREAS, through
his all too brief assignment, he served with impeccable professionalism,
genuine courtesy and abiding commitment to the finest traditions
of the New Jersey State Police; and
WHEREAS, Trooper
Thomas Joseph Hanratty served proudly as part of a long line of
dedicated law enforcement officials; and
WHEREAS, Trooper
Hanratty has made the ultimate sacrifice, giving his life in the
of duty and, therefore, it is appropriate and fitting for the State
of New Jersey to mark his passing and to honor his memory.
NOW, THEREFORE,
I, JAMES J. FLORIO, Governor of the State of New Jersey, by virtue
of the authority vested in my by the Constitution and by the statutes
of this State, do hereby ORDER and DIRECT:
1. The flag
of the United States of America and the flag of the State of New
Jersey shall be flown at half mast at all State departments, offices,
agencies and instrumentalities during appropriate hours on Monday,
April 6, 1992 in recognition and mourning of New Jersey State
Trooper Thomas Joseph Hanratty, Badge 4971.
2. This
Order shall take effect immediately.
