5th Squadron, 117th Cavalry (5-117th CAV)

The 5th Squadron, 117th Cavalry uses tanks and helicopters in the place of horses, but it still comes to the rescue when needed. It has its headquarters in Vineland, New Jersey and units throughout the state. Cavalry units (called 'troops') use the M-1 Abrams battle tank and armored personnel carriersas their primary weapons. Three troops, located in Rhode Island, are Air Cavalry and use the AH-1 Cobra attack helicopter. Cavalry troops are in Vineland, Dover, Woodstown, and West Orange. Mission Statement

The 50th Brigade mission is to deploy, fight, and defeat enemy forces in any type of terrain, weather, or combat situation. In peacetime the 50th Brigade trains its units to meet combat readiness standards, while supporting all Division operations and exercises. The 50th Brigade also provides a ready force of soldiers and equipment to assist in NJ communities when disaster or emergencies strike. Units are located in many New Jersey communities and have often been called upon to provide relief and services in emergencies.
