For four hours on Oct. 2, the 177th Fighter
Wing's main hangar was transformed
into a World War II USO dance floor.
The dance was to honor returning unit members who
supported Operations’ Enduring Freedom, SOCEUR, Iraqi
Freedom and Joint Forge.
Like the memorable USO-sponsored socials of yesteryear,
an orchestra provided live music as more than
500 guests - many in vintage uniforms and too young to
remember the original hangar dances - took to the floor.
"This is a salute to all of our unit members, and
especially the ones who have been deployed overseas
fighting the global war on terror," stated Col. Brian Webster,
Commander, 177th Fighter Wing, “The WWII theme was
chosen to honor the members of the greatest generation.
They left their jobs, joined the military, went overseas and
fought a determined evil enemy in order to free oppressed
people, just like we are doing today."
