Finley C. Fuchs was born in Dunellen, New Jersey in 1927. Prior to enlisting in the New Jersey State Police he worked as a floor boy.

Trooper Fuchs enlisted with the New Jersey State Police on August 19, 1955 as a member of the 49th State Police Class. He was assigned to Troop C, Riverton and later to the Princeton Substation. His service with the Division was characterized by loyalty, fearless performance of duty and faithful and energetic devotion to the principles of the New Jersey State Police.

Trooper Fuchs died as a result of an automobile accident while in the line of duty.

At 5:00 p.m. on December 19, 1957, Trooper Fuchs left Princeton Substation to appear in court in Laurelton, Brick Township, Ocean County, New Jersey. While heading south on Route 9 in Freehold Township, Monmouth County, he lost control of his car and was in a head-on collision with a 1953 Mercury Sedan in the north lane of the highway. Trooper Fuchs died enroute to Fitkin Hospital in Neptune, New Jersey.

Trooper Fuchs served 1 year and 5 months with the New Jersey State Police.

Trooper Fuchs was survived by his fiancée. He was 30 years old.
