Wall Township, N.J. - The New Jersey State Police is investigating a fatal crash involving a Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office vehicle that occurred on Wednesday, August 1, in Wall Township.

Officer William Fancher, 57, and his passenger, Officer Christopher Piney, 53, both of the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office, were traveling from a training demonstration in Belmar, N.J., in a 2010 Spartan truck westbound on County Road 18. Based on the preliminary investigation, at 1:51 p.m., Antonio Ramos, 56, of Neptune City, N.J., was driving a 2015 Nissan Altima southbound on Adrienne Road when he failed to stop and yield to traffic, entered the intersection, and was struck on the left side by the front of the Spartan truck.

Antonio Ramos was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, N.J., where he was later pronounced deceased at 2:52 p.m. Officers Fancher and Piney did not report any injuries at the scene.
