TROOPERS ARREST NEWARK MAN FOR
TRANSPORTING GUNS BY TRAIN

Newark, N.J. - On Friday, July 20th, troopers from the New Jersey State Police Weapons Trafficking Bureau arrested a Newark man suspected of transporting guns from Savannah, Georgia to New Jersey using the train system.

Detectives, working in coordination with the Amtrak Police Department and the New Jersey Transit Police Department stopped Leo Robinson, 40, of Newark, outside of Newark Penn Station. A criminal check of Robinson revealed several outstanding criminal warrants. Detective then checked his belongings and found three handguns, a Ruger 9mm pistol with a defaced serial number, a Ruger 9mm pistol reported stolen from Savannah Georgia, a Taurus 9mm pistol, and five pistol magazines with numerous 9mm rounds.

Robinson was charged with Unlawful Possession of Weapons, Possession of Weapons by a Convicted Felon, Unlawful Transportation of Firearms, and other weapon related offenses. He was lodged in the Essex County Jail pending a bail hearing.

Charges are merely accusations and the suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
