State Police Arrest Couple for Multiple Bank and Store Robberies

Elmer Borough, Salem County - Troopers from Woodstown Station have arrested Jason D’Angelo, 36, and Joanna Probst, 37, both of Mulica Hill, N.J., for committing four bank robberies, and several convenience store robberies, throughout South Jersey.

On July 7, Woodstown Station troopers, working in cooperation with the Salem County Prosecutor's Office and Elmer Police Department, began investigating the robbery of the Century Bank in Elmer Borough.

The suspect, described as a white male wearing a long-sleeve shirt and a mask, entered Century Bank in Elmer Borough and demanded money. After being given cash by the teller, the suspect fled to the rear of the property, crawled through a small hole in a fence, and departed in a vehicle that was parked at a local diner.

On July 23 and 26, a convenience store located at the Pole Tavern Circle in Upper Pittsgrove Township was robbed by a person matching the description of the suspect wanted for the bank robbery. During all three robberies, the suspect wore a mask and long-sleeve shirt, and demanded money from an employee.

During the investigation, detectives working in cooperation with Mantua Township Police Department discovered that beginning last November, several stores and banks in South Jersey were robbed by a suspect using the same tactics and wearing similar disguises. Detectives were able to indentify Jason D’Angelo and Joanna Probst as suspects.

On August 19, Woodstown troopers, assisted by members of NJSP Special Investigations Unit, and Mantua Township Police Department, located arrested D’Angelo and Probst on a dirt road just off of Clems Run Road in Mantua Township.

Search warrants were issued for both D’Angelo’s residence and vehicle. As a result, detectives seized clothing and other items consistent with ones used in several of the robberies. Jason D’Angelo was charged with 13 counts of second degree Robbery and 13 counts of conspiracy. Joanna Probst was charged with 13 counts of second degree robbery, 13 counts of conspiracy, and possession of heroin, which found during the search following her arrest. They were each lodged at the Salem County Jail in lieu of $500,000 full cash bail.
