Una Mujer del Condado de Essex, se Declara Culpable de Reclamo Fraudulento de Seguro Médico

TRENTON -La Fiscal General Anne Milgram y el Director de la División de Justicia Criminal Gregory A. Paw informaron que una Mujer residente en la ciudad de Newark, se declaró culpable de efectuar el reclamo fraudulento al seguro médico en relación a un accidente con un autobus.

La Procuradora de la Oficina contra los Fraudes en Seguros explicó que Sharonda Thomas, de 33 años, de Newark, se declaró culpable ante el Juez de la Corte Superior del condado de Morris, Salem Vincent Ahto, de efectuar reclamos fraudulentos de seguro médico en tercer grado. Un jurado investigador del condado de Morris formuló los cargos contra Thomas el 11 de diciembre de 2007.

Thomas, confesó que en forma fraudulenta efectuó los reclamos al seguro médico, la cantidad de $5,150 a lo cual no tenía derecho. Thomas, en forma falsa reclamó que sufrio una herida en su cabeza por un pedazo de vidrio de unautobús, cuando la puerta de un automóvil estacionado se abrió y el autobús golpeó la puerta, en circunstancias que este vehiculo transitaba por una calle de Newark. La investigación determinó que Thomas no había sido golpeada en la cabeza y no sufrió ningún daño a consecuencia del accidente. La Unidad Especial de Investigaciones refirió este caso a la Oficina Contra los Fraudes en Seguros de la Fiscalía General.

Las investigadoras estatales Laura Parisi, y Amy Carson asi como la Vice Fiscal Cheryl A. Maccaroni fueron asignadas a esta investigación.

Thomas, deberá ser sentenciada por el juez Ahto el próximo 20 de marzo. Los delitos en tercer grado acarrean sentencias de 5 años en prisión y el pago de una multa de $15,000.
