TRENTON
– Attorney General Anne Milgram announced
that an Essex County man was charged in a
state grand jury indictment today for allegedly
distributing child pornography over the Internet.
Angelo
Crocco, 39, of Belleville, was charged with
two counts of second-degree distribution of
child pornography and one count of fourth-degree
possession of child pornography, according
to Criminal Justice Deborah L. Gramiccioni.
The
indictment alleges that Crocco distributed
child pornography over the Internet by means
of emails. An investigation determined that,
in November 2008 and again in February 2009,
Crocco allegedly sent multiple images of child
pornography from his America Online e-mail
account via the Internet.
Crocco
was arrested on March 23 and is currently
free on his own recognizance.
Members
of the New Jersey State Police Digital Technology
Investigations Unit coordinated the investigation.
Deputy Attorney General Lee Schaer presented
the case to the state grand jury.
The
indictment is merely an accusation and the
defendant is presumed innocent until proven
guilty. Second-degree crimes carry a maximum
sentence of 10 years in state prison and a
$150,000 fine. Fourth-degree crimes carry
a maximum sentence of 18 months in state prison
and a $10,000 fine.
