NEWARK – The New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs has proposed amendments to regulations regarding supervision of licensed orthotist assistants, licensed prosthetist assistants, and licensed prosthetist-orthotist assistants.
Currently, N.J.A.C. 13:44H-3.6 requires the presence of a supervising orthotist or prosthetist when a licensed orthotist assistant, licensed prosthetist assistant, or licensed prosthetist-orthotist assistant provides an initial evaluation of a patient or final provision of an orthotic or prosthetic appliance. Licensed assistants cannot provide an initial evaluation or perform the final provision of an appliance. The proposed amendments to N.J.A.C. 13:44H-3.6(g) remove reference to licensed assistants to address possible confusion as to whether licensed assistants can provide an initial evaluation or perform the final provision of an appliance.
The proposed regulation, and information on how to submit a comment by August 18, 2017, can be viewed here.
