Date of Proposal: August 21, 2017
Proposal Number: PRN 2017-189
Proposal Description: The Division of Criminal Justice proposes to amend rules relating to Practice and Procedure before the New Jersey Victims of Crime Compensation Office, N.J.A.C. 13:75-4.4(b), 4.7(a), 4.8(b), 4.9, and 4.10(b). The proposed rule amendments increase certain of the State’s crime victim compensation benefit amounts. The amendments are designed to provide violent crime victims with additional financial resources for such things as counseling, relocation, transportation, funerals, and legal services. The amendments also expand the class of persons eligible for relocation benefits to include certain crime incident witnesses. The proposed increases in benefit amounts require no additional State or federal appropriations and do not increase the $25,000 aggregate amount of compensable benefits available to a victim or other claimants in a given case.
