TRENTON - Attorney General Christopher S. Porrino today announced the appointment of Charles A. Fiore as Acting Gloucester County Prosecutor.

Acting Prosecutor Fiore was sworn into office this morning. He replaces Prosecutor Sean F. Dalton, who served as Gloucester County Prosecutor since May 31, 2002 and resigned today. Dalton is taking a position as an Assistant Attorney General with the New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice.

“Charles Fiore brings a wealth of legal knowledge and experience to the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office, experience gained in 30 years of private practice, during which he served a dozen municipalities as attorney, prosecutor, and public defender,” said Governor Chris Christie. “We thank Sean Dalton for his 15 years of strong leadership, and we’re confident that Acting Prosecutor Fiore will lead the office with the same expertise and dedication he has demonstrated throughout his career.”

“Charles Fiore has based his legal career in Gloucester County for the past three decades, devoting much of his time to counseling and representing its municipalities,” said Attorney General Porrino. “His legal acumen and commitment to Gloucester County make him a great choice to lead its law enforcement community and guard the safety of county residents as prosecutor.”

“I have been a lifelong resident of Gloucester County. I welcome the new challenges associated with this position and will do my best to serve the residents of this diverse county,” said Acting Prosecutor Fiore. “I look forward to working with the current individuals employed by the Prosecutor’s Office, and together we can face the many present and future challenges that confront us.”

Acting Prosecutor Fiore has been in private law practice for 30 years in South Jersey, operating as a sole practitioner since 1991, with a law office in Williamstown. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science in 1981 from Rutgers University—Camden, and he subsequently attended George Mason University School of Law, where he received his Juris Doctor Law Degree in 1987.

Fiore has held numerous posts as municipal attorney, municipal prosecutor, municipal hearing officer and municipal public defender for towns in Gloucester, Burlington and Camden counties. In addition to his extensive experience as prosecutor for various municipalities, Fiore has served as Monroe Township Director of Law/Municipal Solicitor for 23 years, acting as general counsel for all township departments; representing the township in all Superior Court matters; and also dealing with municipal budgets and bonding; redevelopment law; tax appeals; labor law; disciplinary proceedings; employment contracts and litigation; and numerous other areas of municipal law and government practice.
