Sea Girt, N.J. - The New Jersey State Police Canine Training Academy celebrated the graduation of two classes of police dog and handler teams in a ceremony at the New Jersey State Police Academy in Sea Girt on Friday, June 19. The classes consisted of 24 teams from 16 different agencies with three of the teams completing both schools. Graduating dogs received their badges after weeks of extensive training programs that prepared them for either patrol duties or tracking assignments.
Patrol Class #15 began September 22, 2015 and concluded on January 30, 2015. Training covered obedience, agility, tracking of a missing person or suspect, building and field searches, article searches, and criminal apprehension. The head trainer for Patrol Class #15 was Sgt. Bryan Trexler with the NJSP. Assistant trainers were Sgt. Roger Markert, NJSP, Tpr. I Richard Marchetti, NJSP, and Officer Bruce Myers, N.J. Department of Corrections. Apprentice trainers are Sgt. Timothy Neville, NJSP, Tpr. I Scott Stickel, NJSP, and Ptlm. Joseph Canuso, Medford Twp. Police Department.

Scent Class #30 began March 16, 2015 and concluded, June 19, 2015. The class was divided between 12 explosive detection teams and six narcotic detection teams. The narcotic detection teams are trained on six types of narcotics and the explosive detection teams are trained on 14 types of explosives.
The head trainer for the NJSP Scent Class #30 is Lt. Archer Jones with the NJSP. Assistant trainers are Sgt. Roger Markert, NJSP, Tpr. I Richard Marchetti, NJSP, Officer Donald Mitchell, N.J.
