State Police Lock Up Wawa Robbers
After an extensive investigation involving Detectives from the New Jersey State Police and several Burlington County municipal police departments, both subjects sought for a string of ten armed robberies at convenience stores have been captured.
Yesterday morning (Thursday, January 22nd) Kenneth Darden, 36 of Ontario St. Philadelphia was arrested at his residence by Philadelphia police after a warrant was issued by Burlington County Superior Court. The warrant was based on information gathered after the arrest of the first robber, Anthony Holmes on Friday, January 16th.
Holmes, 37 of Cherokee Dr. Browns Mills, was picked up as he left his home by State Police detectives who had been watching the house. Information leading to Holmes' identification was developed after surveillance photos were shown in the local media.
Holmes was charged in connection with ten convenience store armed robberies between September and December of last year. Darden was arrested for his participation in at least two of the crimes. (Open the attached press release from December 4th, 2003 for some details on those incidents)
Holmes was lodged in Burlington County Jail in default of $125,000 cash bail. Charges from Delran, Eastampton and Westampton police departments were also being filed for the robberies in those jurisdictions. Darden remains in the custody of the Philadelphia Police Department pending his extradition to New Jersey.
Weapons including several knives, box cutter and hammer were brandished in some of the incidents while a gun was indicated, but never seen in another.
