Troopers Arrest Two for Loaded Handgun and Marijuana
When Their Vehicle Was Found Stopped
in the Middle of Rt. 80
Denville, N.J. – Troopers from Netcong station arrested two men for possession of a loaded handgun and
marijuana after their vehicle was found stopped in the center-left lane of Rt. 80 early this morning. Garant Evans,
31 of Roselle, N.J. and Michael Goodson, Jr., 25, of Spring, Texas were processed at Netcong State Police Station and
lodged in Morris County jail.
Garant Evans was the driver of a grey Yukon with Tennesee registration that was stopped in the left center lane of the
highway when a tow truck driver came upon them just after 3:00 a.m. today. The tow driver called 911 and an ambulance was
dispatched. Troopers arrived and arrested Evans for Driving While Intoxicated. Goodson was determined by medics to require
evaluation at the hospital. Prior to his transport to St. Clare’s in Denville, he was found to be in possession of a small
amount of marijuana.
Troopers searching the vehicle located an additional amount of marijuana and a loaded .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun.
Troopers transported Evans to Netcong State Police Barracks where he was processed. Goodson was released from the
hospital and then taken to Netcong. Both men were charged with:
- possession of marijuana (under 50 grams)
- possession of drug paraphernalia
- unlawful possession of a handgun
- possession of a loaded handgun
- possession of hollow point ammunition
Addtionally, Evans was charged with possession of a weapon by persons prohibited because of a prior felony conviction.
He was also given motor vehicle summonses including DWI.
Bail for Evans was set at $150,000 full cash. Bail for Goodson was set at $50,000. Both men were to be transported
to Morris County Jail in default of bail.
