Troopers Arrest Stanhope Man
for Green Township Murder
Green Township, NJ - The New Jersey State Police have arrested a Sussex County man after he confessed to stabbing a Green Township woman.
On Sunday, troopers from the Sussex Station responded to a 911 call at 35 Phillips Road, Green Township after a family member discovered the victim.
Responding troopers entered the residence and found Mariann Ferreira, 56, deceased on her kitchen floor.
Detectives from the New Jersey State Police Major Crimes Unit, Troop B, Crime Scene, and the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office initiated a murder investigation.
During the course of the investigation detectives learned that the victim met with a local contractor identified as Gregg Murphy, 55, of Stanhope.
Murphy was interviewed by detectives and confessed to stabbing the victim, causing her death.
Gergg Murphy was charged with murder and lodged in the Sussex County Jail on $750,000 full cash bail.
Charges are mere accusations and the subject is presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.
