N.J. Ratepayer Advocate Finds Settlement in Environmental Disposal Corp. Rate Case Fair
Newark, N.J.—Ratepayer Advocate Seema M. Singh said she was pleased that a settlement
was approved yesterday giving residential and commercial customers of Environmental
Disposal Corp. (EDC) a significantly lower sewage treatment rate increase. Although
the company originally requested an 18.15.percent rate increase, the newly negotiated
rate increase dropped to slightly over 5 percent.
The Board of Public Utilities (BPU) approved the settlement at a meeting yesterday.
EDC provides sewage treatment and disposal service for both bulk and residential
customers. It provides residential and commercial services to New Jersey customers
in Bedminster and Bernards Townships, including many condominiums and townhomes
in those areas. The company had originally requested a revenue increase of $1,045,868.
However, the company agreed to a settlement revenue increase of $400,002 or
7.98 percent, which was negotiated by the Ratepayer Advocate and BPU staff.
“We are pleased that the settlement will limit the increase
to customers of EDC,” said Ratepayer Advocate Seema M. Singh. “The agreement
is a reasonable balance of the company’s needs for additional revenue and protection
of the ratepayer.”
The flat rate service impact is as follows:
Single family increases
5.09 percent
Townhouse/Condo increases
5.08 percent
Commercial increases
5.09 percent
