IMO Cablevision of New Jersey Petition for Determination of Effective Competition in New Jersey municipalities: Bergenfield, Demarest, Dumont, Emerson, Fair Lawn, Harrington Park, Haworth, Hillsdale, New Milford, Northvale Norwood, Oradell and Paramus. FCC Media Bureau 606-E.  The New Jersey Division of the Rate Counsel on November 28, 2007, submitted comments to the FCC Media Bureau in opposition to Cablevision New Jersey Inc.'s petitions for a Declaration of Effective Competition.

IMO Cablevision’s filings for effective competition at the FCC. There are currently three effective competition petitions filed on behalf of Cablevision that are pending before the Media Bureau at the Federal Communications Commission. The respective petitions affect Elizabeth, Montvale, and West Milford, several communities within the Raritan system and Mahwah, as well as Paterson and Hamilton.  In total over 20 franchise areas are at risk of being declared competitive which would remove the Board’s jurisdiction to regulate basic service tier rates.  Rate Counsel filed oppositions on May 21st and 23rd.

Cablevision announced on May 2, 2007, that the Board of Directors has approved the transfer of Cablevision to the Dolan family that will take the company private.  Cablevision will have to obtain approval from the Board.  With the Comcast acquisition of Patriot Media, and the purchase of Cablevision by the Dolan family, these two companies serve 2.3 million subscribers in NJ.  This is 92% of the cable subscribers in NJ.
