Abstract:
The Brownfields SiteMart is a point feature class representing brownfield sites within the State of New Jersey that have been selected for inclusion on the NJ SiteMart, a website that indexes brownfield sites. Brownfields are defined as any former or current commercial or industrial site, currently vacant or underutilized, on which there has been, or there is suspected to have been, a discharge of a contaminant.
Purpose:
To highlight and denote locations of brownfield sites within the State of New Jersey with the objective of promoting the redevelopment of brownfields throughout the State. Suitable for cartographic use.

Due to the complex nature of this mapping and the relationship of all of the individual parts of the mapping, questions regarding the the file should not be resolved by or even considered using mapping alone. For this reason, any questions relating to the mapping for the State should be directed to OPA. The information has been delivered in a standard format. Process_Description:
A snapshot of the database was received and work began on the project in November 2008. Snapshot of NJ SiteMart delivered to OPA GIS staff. The data was exported and stored in a Microsoft Access database. Records from NJ SiteMart with questionable or no spatial information were processed to normalize address fields, then geocoded using an online geocoding service. A point feature class was created from the geoprocessing results and merged with the remaining points with known coordinates. The points were then reviewed by OPA staff.
