The Hon. Tahesha Way, Lt. Governor and Secretary of State
2018 Constitution Week

2018 Constitution Week

Secretary of State Tahesha Way is excited to celebrate Constitution Day.  Constitution Day commemorates the formation and signing of the U.S. Constitution on September 17, 1787.

To acknowledge this momentous occasion, Secretary Way will embark on a statewide ‘Constitution in the Classroom’ tour.  She will deliver lectures in classrooms across the Garden State on the importance of civics and citizenship.

Secretary Way believes in the need to stand up for a principled understanding of our Constitution as one that protects the rights of—in the words of Footnote Four in Carolene Products—“discrete and insular minorities.”

These classroom lectures will:

  • Educate students about our system of government
  • Distill complex constitutional values into engaging lessons for students
  • Discuss case law on important constitutional concerns and topics
  • Encourage civic participation and understanding by exciting young minds about their constitutional rights and responsibilities
